Olive Road Vintage Fabrics StashAnd if you’re a vintage lover like me, you’ll definitely also want to pop by to shop for some unique and wonderful vintage fabrics too!! Collected by Sarah Richards, these fabrics will be a great addition to your stash, and another wonderful way to avoid waste whilst also shopping for something beautiful and unique. What a great combo right?  So don’t be shy, come and say hi!

Yes, to tell you the truth, I’m going to be doing a little fun experiment.

In the past year or so, I’ve been very drawn towards the idea of creating a collaborative embroidery piece!! The desire developed from reading a lot about different embroidery traditions and processes, and the realisation that a lot of embroidery was done by groups of people and not just by one sole embroidery lover!

From the quilting sewing bees who met up to make quilts together (all by hand), to tapestries in the Middle Ages where men and women worked in workshops together (not always on good wages, but that’s for another time) to hardcore and sumptuous ecclesiastical embroidery workshops with strict rules of conduct and aesthetics (not my style, but so interesting!), and definitely more appealing local groups of people who embroidered together for local community art projects, out of passion, or as a hobby,  and as a way to socialise… Well, I got hooked!! The list goes on and I simply can’t portray all the different faces that embroidery has taken through different ages, cultures and practices in just one quick post, but come and join me this week at the Knitting and Stitching Show, and perhaps we can talk about it whilst you take part in this new project!?

I’m looking forward to it!

Milou Stella EmbroideringI’ll also be showing some of  my most recent upcycled pieces and teach you a basic stitch or two (super easy, I promise!) to encourage you to experiment with needle and thread, and, of course, colours too. I’ll also be bringing some of my embroidery kits, just in case you get the embroidery bug instantly (trust me, it’s possible.  That’s how it happened to me). And, if you fancy learning more: I’m in the middle of planning a whole new series of workshops starting in the new year, so we can talk about that too!

And finally…I’m also sharing a very special discount code, thanks to the amazing Olive Road!!
